LOCKDOWN — Installation & Usage Guide
Browser Support
LOCKDOWN is certified for use on:
- Google Chrome (recommended)
- Other Chromium‑based browsers (e.g. Edge)
- WebKit browsers (e.g. Safari)
LOCKDOWN is a responsive web app and works on desktop, tablet, and mobile, including Android and iOS devices.
Progressive Web App (PWA) Support
LOCKDOWN can run online or offline when installed as a PWA.
- Best experience: Chrome (desktop or Android)
- Installation:
- On Chromium browsers: use the Install icon in the URL bar
- On Safari/iOS: use Share → Add to Home Screen
- If you don’t see the option, open the Share menu first
Operating System
LOCKDOWN runs inside your browser and requires no traditional installation.
- Optimised for desktop‑class machines (Windows, macOS)
- Fully functional on tablets and mobile devices, with some feature limitations (see Safari/iOS notes below)
Disk Requirements
LOCKDOWN itself uses very little disk space.
However, it is a DAW, and audio projects can grow depending on:
- Sample sizes
- Number of tracks
- Rendered stems
A typical project may reach a few hundred MB.
RAM Requirements
Recommended: 8GB+
Memory usage depends on:
- The number and size of audio samples
- The complexity of your arrangement
- Browser memory behaviour
More RAM generally means smoother playback and lower latency.
Screen Size
LOCKDOWN is optimised for widescreen layouts.
- Minimum recommended width: 1280px
- Ideal width: 1920px or higher
The interface adapts to smaller screens, but desktop‑class displays offer the best workflow.
Processor
LOCKDOWN performs all audio processing locally using the Web Audio API.
- More CPU power = smoother playback and lower latency
- Typical recommended machine: MacBook Pro or equivalent
Latency Hint
Some browsers support the Web Audio latencyHint parameter, which helps tune performance.
- You can check this under Settings → Performance
- If unsupported (e.g., Safari), the system defaults to a conservative value
- Lower‑spec machines may struggle with complex projects when this setting is unavailable
For optimisation tips, see the Performance & Tuning section of the documentation.
Notes for Safari and iOS
LOCKDOWN runs well on iPad for smaller projects. However, for the full feature set, including heavy rendering and large sample libraries and generators, desktop Chrome remains the recommended environment.
